This is a call out and some info about the upcoming camp on the 21. - 30. September in Rosia Montana, Romania. Please take your time to read it carefully and if you have any questions left, please get in touch with the organisers at camp2011 [at] reclaimthefields.org!
A note from the organizing team: The organizing team of the camp 2011 has been very small so far, around 9 people, 5 who live in Romania and 4 from other parts of the Constellation who are in Romania already. The last days this group has been trying to get the camp structured a bit and decided that we want to start with the program of the camp on the 21. of September at 5 PM, so please consider this in your planning! During the Nyeleni Forum, at the two reclaim the fields meetings we had, there were a couple of people who said they would like to help with the organizational process. So here are some things we will need help with: The camp will be held on a camp with very little existing infrastructure on site. So from two weeks before the camp, we will need a bunch of hands to coordinate the building up of the camp and logistics, setting up tents, sanitary infrastructure, compost toilets, etc. Also please be very clear from what time on you will be able to help us prepare the camp when contacting us! We need people with experience in cooking for a large number of people (several hundred) to participate in the kitchen during the camp! Urgently we still have a huge lack in finances and if you know foundations or people who might want to support the camp, get in touch with fundraising@reclaimthefields.org! For donations please notice the neat Paypal-plugin on the Homepage. There might be a workshop with local farmers in the coming week on building a cob oven at the camp site, if you would be interested in this please get in touch with program@reclaimthefields.org. We still need to see if we can find a farmer who could do this with us and if it is worth it as the oven has to dry before using it at the camp. If you have any first aid experience or/and a medical education please contact the organizers!! at camp2011@reclaimthefields.org The next meeting of the organizing team will be on the 10th of September in Cluj, Romania, those of you who are not in Romania and want to take part in this meeting via skype, please let us know in advance. Program: The Program of the camp is going to be and open process, which welcomes all of you to take part in it. On the first day of the camp, we want to have an open session with all the people who participate in the camp, to put together the program in a collective process. This list (click here) is partly a summary of ideas and propositions made by people who want to hold workshops at the camp. And there are some ideas that might inspire other people to hold workshops, so the list still waits for your contribution! Bring your ideas to the camp or fill out the list and get in touch with the organizing team in advance! (Please also check the list for the contributions you signed up for!) You can reach us at program@reclaimthefields.org Please help us to make the programme rich of contents and activities. Some of the propositions for the programme so far: Cheese Making with local peasants, Rhythms of Resistance, What is PEDAL? And an account of the PEDAL tour, Storytelling for Resistance, farm work with local peasants, Facilitation Skills for groups of any size, Stupid projects and great resistances-occupations de terres contre l'expansion du capitalisme,What are the limits to Autonomy in the alternatif project of life when we are trying to get rid of state institution? ZAD antiaeroport resistance presentation, Catalonia rural community projetc presentation, discussion of the project Beyond Our Backyard, Seeds and seed-swap, Access to Land, Brewing spirits with local peasants, Cooking, baking bread, camp fire stories, introduction to Reclaim the Fields and the Save Rosia Montana Campaign, Queering agriculture, Consensus-decision-making, Music, Tours through Rosia Montana and the surrounding Area .................... and a lot more! During the camp, there are basic tasks everybody benefits from and is asked to take part in as well. These will include, cooking, cleaning, child-care (!), as well as building up the camp and cleaning up after the camp has finished. How to get to Rosia Montana? To get to Rosia Montana, please see the Reclaim the fields homepage for Information on how to get to Rosia Montana, go to the download section of the camp. Under the section Transport Information you will find information on how to get to Rosia Montana. For people coming with private cars please check out this google map! If you are traveling by car or are looking for a lift, please use the car-sharing-tool which is located on the front-page at www.reclaimthefields.org If you come by car and have never been to Romania please consider that the road-conditions might be very different from what you are used to and that you might need more time to travel a relatively „short“ distance. What to Bring? The camp is held at a mountain plateau located at 1000 meters and we can expect the days to be warm but also expect some rain! The night will be cold and there might be temperatures as low as 5°C. So as good parents, we have prepared a small list of what you might consider when packing for the camp: Necessary travel documents (check wether you need an id, passport or a visa to enter Romania, if you need help on these issues please contact camp2011 [at] reclaimthefields.org), tent, sleeping bag, warm and rainproof cloth, sleeping mat, boots, warm socks, long underpants, radio for interpretation, necessary medicine for personal use, matches, there are few shops in the area around Rosia Montana, plates and cuttlery, (head)lanterns, sun-showerbags, water bottles for personal use, personal belongings, info-material from your projects or other initiatives, skills you would like to share, food and products from your area/farm, seeds for seed exchange, music instruments, lots of energy and joy and anything else you want to share with the people at the camp!! Information for People with Children and/or with special needs: We will have facilities for childcare, where participants of the camp are expected to take part in taking care of the children. We might be outside with the children if the weather allows it and in case of bad weather we will move inside, so please bring warm clothes as well as medicine or other things the children might need. Please contact us when you come with children, so we know how many children at what ages with what language needs, there are. Please don't hesitate to come to the camp with children! We want to create an environment where parents will be able to take part in the camp knowing that their children are taken care off! Please also ask if there are any questions about accommodation, etc. We are currently trying to organize accommodation for people who can not sleep in a tent for 10 days or families with children. So please let us know if you need accommodation. We will most likely accommodate people with special needs in the village of Rosia Montana, but the camp will be placed on a plateau 15-20 minutes hike up a hill from the village. If this proves to be a problem we will try to have cars driving people up to the plateau. Food: We will try to consume as much local food as possible during the camp and buy from local farmers to support them in their daily life and struggle. As Rosia Montana lies in a mountainous region, this means that we will mainly be able to get animal products and meat, still we will have vegan food available for people who wish so! This will also depend on YOU as the kitchen will be organized by all people at the camp in a communal way. Please make your food preferences and needs clear when registering for the camp! We will ask for donations for food and drinks during the camp! Interpretation: We have decided to make the camp bilingual in English and Romanian. We will have all bigger meetings interpreted over radio as we will have some DIY equipment from the COATI collective. So please bring you own radio (with headphones!!!!) as we won't be able to supply radios for all participants. Also please make clear which language-needs you have other than Romanian or English when registering for the camp and we will try to organize interpretation! Though we won't be able to have interpretation for all languages that will be present at the camp, as our funding situation is not the best. If you have interpretation experience, please get in touch with us! camp2011 [at] reclaimthefields.org Travel Costs: Initially, we planned to reimburse people from low income backgrounds to make their participation at the camp possible. Right now our funding situation is very sore and we are trying to get enough funding to pay for food/electricity/sanitary facilities/etc. and we can't guarantee that we will be able to reimburse peoples traveling costs. We are still trying to obtain more funding but we would ask you to be prepared to pay your own travel costs. The only exception to this will be the interpreters. Registration: Please be so kind and register for the camp, there is a banner on the Reclaim the Fields Homepage which says „Register for the camp“.
